This Shrimp Poke Bowl Recipe is super flavorful and easy to make! Shrimp, rice, veggies and a homemade soy citrus sauce make up this bowl. Definitely not traditional, but so delicious!
After my Cooked Salmon Poke Bowl received so much attention, I decided it was time to make another version. This bowl is slightly different. It obviously contains shrimp instead of salmon. It also calls for different vegetables and a lighter homemade sauce. Try both recipes and let me know which is your favorite!
What are Hawaiian Poke Bowls?
A traditional Hawaiian poke bowl contains raw marinated fish with white rice. Traditional poke is made from tuna or tako which is octopus.
When I went to Hawaii, the poke bowls were much simpler compared to the mainland. They had less toppings. It was more about the fish.
I don't claim that my poke shrimp bowl is traditional in any way, especially because it doesn't even contain raw fish, but this is my own version.
Why you will love this shrimp poke bowl recipe!

Expert Tips
I recommend using shrimp that are already peeled and deveined for this recipe. Less time spent prepping the shrimp.
To make the recipe extra easy I used pre-cooked frozen Jasmine white rice. I purchased it from my local Whole Foods. I know they also sell it at Trader Joe's. You can make your own rice as well, but this saves a lot of time.
Assemble the bowls when the rice is still warm, but not piping hot. If the rice is steaming, it will wilt the lettuce. Gross!
You can meal prep these bowls if you would like. Store the sauce separately and cut the avocado when ready to eat. The cooked shrimp will last for 2-3 days in the fridge.
Poke Bowl Variations/Mix'ins
Use a different protein such as chicken, salmon or tofu if you don't eat shrimp.
Try adding in alternative fruits and veggies such as pineapple, carrots, scallion, purple cabbage, cucumber or jicama. The options are endless!
Top the bowl with chopped macadamia nuts, furikake seasoning or fresh cilantro.
Try my Sriracha Mayo with Greek Yogurt that I used in my Cooked Salmon Poke Bowl instead of the Soy Citrus Sauce.
