These Air Fryer Chicken Fajitas can be made in less than 20 minutes! This recipe is extremely flavorful, easy to make and customizable.

Why you'll love this Air Fryer Chicken Fajitas recipe:
Chicken fajitas should always be made in the air fryer. I know this might be a controversial statement, but the chicken and veggies get this gorgeous char that you cannot obtain from a pan or from the oven easily.
Dinner in under 20 minutes! Since the chicken is cut into smaller pieces, it only takes around 10 minutes to cook. This is an awesome weeknight meal that anyone would be excited about.
This recipe can be made to fit many diets. Serve these air fryer fajitas however you please - In a flour tortilla, in a whole wheat tortilla, in a corn tortilla or in a bowl.
Add any toppings you like! The options are endless. I included a bunch of ideas for you below.
Meal prep this recipe! If you want to enjoy these fajitas for a few days, cook the meat, onions and peppers one day and then assemble the day you're enjoying.
Ingredients
boneless skinless chicken breast - Cut lengthwise and then into strips.
bell peppers - You can pick whichever bell peppers you like best. I used one red and one yellow. Then, I cut them into strips.
red onion - We are using half of a red onion for this recipe. You can also use a yellow onion if you'd prefer.
fajita seasoning - I'm going to show you how to make homemade fajita seasoning because it's so easy. If you're in a pinch, you can use store-bought.
avocado oil or neutral oil of choice
Homemade vs. premade fajita seasoning:
Premade seasonings usually have yucky additives that aren't necessary. Most of the time, these seasonings are also loaded with salt. I say, make your own fajita seasoning instead. It's super easy. All you need to make mine is...
- 2 teaspoons chili powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- ½ teaspoon dried oregano
- ½ teaspoon salt
- â…› tsp ground black pepper
Of course, we all get busy at times and we need to use a store-bought seasoning. In that case, I recommend Simply Organic Fajita Seasoning Mix.
How to make air fryer chicken fajitas
First, make your fajita seasoning by combining all the spices in a small bowl. If you're using a store-bought seasoning, skip this part. 🙂 Preheat your air fryer.
Next, cut each chicken breast lengthwise and then into strips. Then, cut your peppers into strips and slice your onion.
Now, toss your chicken, peppers and onions into a bowl. Pour the oil on top and the seasoning mix. Combine it all with clean hands until everything is evenly coated.
Air fry the mixture in a single layer at 375 degrees F for 7-10 minutes, or until the internal temperature of the chicken reaches 165 degrees F.
Once cooked, serve the fajitas the way you would like! - In a flour tortilla, in a whole wheat tortilla, in a corn tortilla or in a bowl with your toppings of choice.
recipe pro-tips
Don't cut the peppers and onions too thin or they will burn more easily. I personally like quite a bit of a char so I didn’t cut mine thick. It all depends on preference.
If your air fryer has a preheating option, you can preheat your air fryer. If you don’t have that option, you can run the machine at 375 degrees F for 3-5 minutes. Leave the machine running for about 3 minutes for smaller air fryers. Leave the machine running for about 5 minutes for larger air fryers.
There's no need to spray the air fryer basket since we coated the chicken and vegetables in oil.
If you have a smaller air fryer, cook the recipe in two batches to keep the chicken, peppers and onions from steaming rather than charring. You want the crisp!
