Air Fryer Apples taste just like the filling of an apple pie! The apples are coated in maple syrup, cinnamon, nutmeg and cardamom.
When I say these apples taste like apple pie filling, I really mean it! I was shocked when I tasted them.
Air fryer baked apples are truly the perfect healthy apple recipe. The apples are only sweetened with one tablespoon of pure maple syrup. They're also gluten-free, vegan and 100% delicious!
Why you'll love apples in the air fryer:
- Healthy! - A piece of apple pie has about 20 grams of added sugar. One serving of air fryer apples has about 7 grams of added sugar. These calculations do not include the natural sugar in apples.
- Super easy! - There's no need to spend all day making an apple pie when you can have the filling with all the toppings you desire!
- Great way to use up extra apples from apple picking! - You know the feeling of being left with a giant bag of apples and not having the motivation to do much with them. Make this dessert every night and the apples will be gone in no time. You might be sad when you can't make this anymore though. 😉
Ingredients and substitutions:
- red apples - I suggest using red apples opposed to green. I used Honey Crisp. Other options are Gala, Fuji, Pink Lady and Jonagold.
- melted coconut oil - Avocado oil or butter also work.
- pure maple syrup - You can also use honey or agave syrup.
- vanilla extract
- spices - cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg and salt

Recipe pro-tips:
I recommend preheating your air fryer for even cooking.
You do not need to peel the apples. You can if you would like to but it's not necessary. I like the structure from the skin and the added fiber.
Do not stack the apples on top of each other or they will not cook evenly.
Use as much or as little of the spices as you would like. You can also use spice blends like apple pie spice or pumpkin pie spice.
Topping ideas:
- Greek yogurt
- vanilla ice cream
- whipped cream
- chopped walnuts or pecans
- a drizzle of honey
- crushed graham crackers
Dietary adaptations:
Air fryer baked apple slices are naturally gluten-free, dairy-free and vegan. Just make sure the toppings you use comply with your dietary restrictions.
Storage directions:
Refrigeration - Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to two days.
Reheating - Reheat the apples in the air fryer at 325 degrees F until warm.
