This Fall Margarita is made with tequila, apple cider, fresh lime juice, orange juice and pumpkin pie spice. It will be your favorite fall cocktail!
Once the fall season began, I started craving a cocktail with all of the fall flavors. I don't love having fancy cocktails out because they're typically very sweet. I knew I had to create my own fall-themed cocktail recipe! And then... the Fall Margarita was born.
This Fall Margarita is made without Cointreau, Grand Marnier or Triple Sec. There are also no added sweeteners. The sweetness comes from the natural sugar in the apple cider and orange juice.
Why you'll love a Fall Margarita:
- Great twist on a classic - Everyone enjoys a margarita, but it's a summery drink. Add in some apple cider and pumpkin pie spice and you can enjoy a margarita in cooler temperatures.
- If you're not into drinking a Hot toddy, this is the perfect cozy but cold cocktail!
- Make it for a crowd - The recipe yields two servings, but you can easily double or triple the recipe. This is the perfect Thanksgiving cocktail recipe and Halloween cocktail recipe.
Ingredients overview:
- tequila blanco/silver - Use your favorite brand!
- apple cider - Make sure that you use 100% apple cider without any added sugar.
- fresh lime juice - Don't use bottled lime juice. Fresh makes all the difference!
- orange juice - Make sure that you use 100% orange juice without any added sugar.
- pumpkin pie spice - A pinch of cinnamon, ginger, allspice, cloves and nutmeg adds the perfect touch.
- ice cubes - To keep the drink nice and cold (obviously)
Optional ingredients:
- turbinado cane sugar + pumpkin pie spice + lime wedge - Optional for the pumpkin pie spice rim.
- cinnamon sticks + apple slices - Optional for garnish.
How to make a Fall margarita:
A complete list of ingredients, amounts and instructions is located on the recipe card below.
Step 1: If you are choosing to rim your glasses, place an equal amount of sugar and pumpkin pie spice on a board or plate.
Step 2: Use a lime wedge to wet the glasses in the areas you want the rims. I just did along the top of one side of each glass. You can also use a brush of honey instead of the lime wedge to get the mixture to stick.
Step 3: Dip the glasses into the sugar mixture until coated.
Step 4: Add tequila, apple cider, fresh lime juice, orange juice, pumpkin pie spice and a handful of ice to a cocktail shaker.
Step 5: Place the top on a shake well.
Step 6: Pour the drinks over ice and garnish with a cinnamon stick and an apple slice if you'd like.
Recipe pro-tips:
Make a plain salt rim instead of the pumpkin pie spice rim.
I love using 1800 Silver Tequila for this recipe. You can use darker tequila if you'd like, but I prefer lighter.
Make it a mocktail - Just skip the tequila!
When I first started making cocktails, I purchased a basic cocktail shaker set from Amazon. You can grab it HERE.
Can I make a pitcher of this Fall Margarita?
Yes, you can make a pitcher of this Fall Margarita. If you're hosting a party, go ahead and triple the recipe. On the recipe card, you will see an option to triple the recipe. The measurements will change for you automatically once you select "3x". This makes about 6 drinks.
If you're making this drink in advance, don't add the ice until serving or the drink will be watered down. I recommend putting ice on the side of pitcher when serving and guests can add the ice as they drink.
