How to make a baked sweet potato in the air fryer?
A complete list of ingredients, amounts and instructions is located on the recipe card below.
- Step 1: Preheat air fryer to 375 degrees F. Score a line down the middle of each clean sweet potato. Be sure not to cut all the way through. It’s just a shallow cut. I like doing this instead of poking holes all around the sweet potatoes.
- Step 2: Place them into the air fryer and air fry them at 375 degrees F for 30-40 minutes, or until tender. Ensure you leave space between the two potatoes so they cook evenly. You can cook up to four sweet potatoes at a time if your air fryer is large enough.
- Step 3: Enjoy as you wish!
Recipe pro-tips:
- Be sure to preheat your air fryer for even cooking.
- You can cook up to four sweet potatoes at a time if your air fryer is large enough.
- If you use sweet potatoes that are larger than the size I mentioned in the recipe, they will take longer to cook. If you use sweet potatoes that are smaller than the size I mentioned in the recipe, they will cook in less time.
- Oil and salt are not needed on the outside of the potatoes. They cook perfectly fine without.
Topping ideas:
- butter or olive oil, salt and pepper
- sour cream or full-fat Greek yogurt, chives, salt and pepper
- almond butter and cinnamon
- taco filling and toppings

I don’t remember if I posted the first time that I made sweet potatoes this way — about three weeks ago, but I just started a second pair. I was delivered four HUGE sweet potatoes so I left the air fryer on 400 for 50 minutes and 350 for ten the first time and they were perfect.
Awesome! Size definitely matters when it comes to cooking sweet potatoes. Thanks for sharing!
