There's a few reasons why I love this recipe. One, it will transform any "anti-tofuer." Two, you could drink the dipping sauce - it's so good. Three, its completely vegan!
This meal looks super fancy because the tofu is on sticks. I just used the skewers so it would mimic the way chicken satay is served. I didn't have the patience to soak the bamboo sticks before cooking the tofu, so I skewered the tofu after it was cooked. You could ditch the skewers all together, but they do make the meal more fun!

Ingredients in Tofu Satay
- extra firm tofu
- canned unsweetened full fat coconut milk
- coconut aminos or low sodium soy sauce
- curry powder
- ground ginger
- garlic powder
- salt and black pepper
- bamboo skewer sticks
Make sure you use EXTRA FIRM TOFU for this recipe! Extra firm tofu has most of the excess water already drained out. You will still have to remove the excess water with towels, but extra firm tofu makes this process a little easier. Use paper towels to wrap the tofu and pat the tofu dry to drain the moisture. You could also use a tofu press. I purchased mine from Amazon. The drier the tofu, the crispier!
Ingredients in Peanut Sauce
- creamy natural peanut butter
- fresh lime juice
- sesame oil
- apple cider vinegar
- coconut aminos or low sodium soy sauce
- ginger powder
- garlic powder
- salt and pepper
- minced cilantro
What type of air fryer is best?
THIS is the one I personally own and love. It's small enough to put on the kitchen counter or on top of your fridge.
What if I don't have an air fryer?
You can cook the tofu in the oven, but I truly feel that the best way to cook tofu is in the air fryer. It comes out crispy!
If you are cooking the tofu in the oven, line a sheet pan with parchment paper and cook at 400 degrees F for 9-14 minutes and then flip the tofu and bake for another 9-14 minutes.

Tofu Satay with Peanut Sauce
Equipment
- Air Fryer
Ingredients
Ingredients in Tofu Satay
- 14 oz block extra firm tofu (Make sure you use EXTRA FIRM TOFU for this recipe! Extra firm tofu has most of the excess water already drained out. You will still have to remove the excess water with towels, but extra firm tofu makes this process a little easier.)
- ¼ cup canned unsweetened full fat coconut milk
- 2 tablespoons coconut aminos or low sodium soy sauce
- 2 teaspoons curry powder
- 2 teaspoons ground ginger
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- salt and black pepper to taste
- 8 bamboo skewer sticks
Ingredients in Peanut Sauce
- ¼ cup creamy natural peanut butter
- ¼ cup fresh lime juice
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
- 1 tablespoon coconut aminos or low sodium soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon ginger powder
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon minced cilantro
Instructions
- First, remove the tofu from the package and drain. Use paper towels to wrap the tofu and pat the tofu dry to drain the moisture. You could also use a tofu press. I purchased mine from Amazon. The drier the tofu, the crispier!
- Once you dry the tofu, cut it into 4 sections and cut each of the sections in half.
- Now, make the tofu marinade. In a mixing bowl, combine coconut milk, coconut aminos, curry powder, ground ginger, garlic powder, salt and pepper. Pour marinade over the tofu. Cover and refrigerate for 15-25 minutes, depending on the time you have.
- Once the tofu has marinated, lay the strips in your air fryer. Ensure you do not stack the tofu on top of each other or it will not get crispy.
- Air fry the tofu at 400 degrees F for about 20-25 minutes.
- While the tofu is cooking, make the peanut sauce. Whisk all ingredients for the peanut sauce together in a small bowl until the sauce is creamy.
- Once the tofu has cooked, skewer each piece of tofu. I didn't have the patience to soak the bamboo sticks before cooking the tofu, so I skewered the tofu after it was cooked. You could ditch the skewers all together, but they do make the meal more fun!
- Serve the skewered tofu sticks with the peanut sauce and enjoy!
