What is a Skinny Spicy Margarita made of?
My Skinny Spicy Margarita recipe contains jalapeño, tequila, lime juice, light unsweetened canned coconut milk and pure honey.
I tried to make a plain old skinny spicy margarita, but I didn't have it in me to make it traditional. I had to shake things up a bit!
Many skinny margarita recipes call for orange juice in place of orange liqueur or Triple sec. We are throwing the orange out the window and using coconut milk instead! I love the tropical flavor this adds. Not to mention, it contains maybe 1 gram of natural sugar.
I have a feeling you will never go back to making a traditional skinny margarita again once you try my version.
Ingredients overview:
- thin jalapeño slices with the seeds removed - It's important to remove the seeds or your mouth will be on fire!
- tequila blanco or silver - I used Espolon Blanco Tequila.
- fresh lime juice - Never use the bottled stuff!
- light unsweetened canned coconut milk - To keep this cocktail light, we are using light coconut milk compared to full fat.
- pure honey or agave - As far as sweetener goes, we are using a little pure honey. You can add as much or as little as you'd like. You can also use agave in place of honey.
How to make a Skinny Spicy Margarita?
A complete list of ingredients, amounts and instructions is located on the recipe card below.
- Add 3-5 slices of jalapeño slices into a cocktail shaker. Muddle with a muddler or back of a wooden spoon.
- Next add tequila, lime juice, coconut milk and honey to the shaker. Shake well.
- Optional - Cut a lime wedge and run it on the side of the glass. Sprinkle salt (or Tajin Spice/Trader Joe's Chili Lime Seasoning.)
- Add a handful of ice to each glass. Pour half of the cocktail mixture into each glass.
- Top each drink with a jalapeño slice and enjoy!
Recipe pro-tips:
- Be sure to shake the cocktail shaker well so everything comes together.
- If you don't like coconut milk, use fresh orange juice instead.
- Use salt, Tajin Spice or Trader Joe's Chili Lime Seasoning to rim your glass.
- I just like adding salt to the side of the glass. You can rim the whole glass if you'd like.

I made this margarita over the weekend for my fiancé and I before we went to dinner. O-M-G! I will never make a margarita any other way again. That’s all. Goodbye 👋.

Haha amazing!! 🙂

So so good—exactly how I make mine, but without the coconut milk. I’ll have to try that next time. Thanks!

It was pretty good actually. I would give it 5 stars, but the light coconut milk curdled, and visually it wasn't appealing. I like the flavor and smoothness though.

I suggest shaking very well and serving right away for best results.
