Air Fryer Smashed Potatoes are easy to make, crispy and made with minimal oil. All you need is a few ingredients for this healthy side dish!
If you’re sick of healthy potato recipes that aren’t actually crispy, try air fryer smashed potatoes! These smashed potatoes are truly just as delicious as fries.
You can enjoy these air fryer smashed potatoes as is or with your favorite dipping sauce. I paired them with a homemade lemon yogurt sauce.
Why you'll love smashed potatoes in the air fryer:
- Minimal ingredients - All you need is baby potatoes, oil, spices and fresh parsley to make this recipe!
- Super easy to make! The most difficult part of this recipe is having to boil the potatoes in advance.
- Customizable - You can switch up the spices and herbs based on your personal preference.
- The crispiest potatoes - Rather than cutting potatoes into fries and air frying them, I recommend this recipe. They are even more crispy!
Ingredients overview:
- red baby potatoes or Yukon Gold baby potatoes
- garlic powder, paprika, salt, ground black pepper - The perfect mix of simple and tasty spices!
- chopped fresh parsley
- avocado oil spray - You can use any oil of choice.
How to make smashed potatoes in air fryer?
A complete list of ingredients, amounts and instructions is located on the recipe card below.
- First, boil and drain the potatoes. Cook them just until fork tender. They should take about 15 minutes.
- Let the potatoes cool for about 10 minutes.
- Preheat air fryer to 400 degrees F.
- Spray your air fryer basket with avocado oil spray to ensure the potatoes don't stick.
- Arrange the potatoes in your air fryer. I normally complete this recipe in a couple of batches. This will depend on the size of your air fryer. Don't overcrowd your air fryer. Make sure each potato has space to get crispy. No stacking!
- Use a glass with a flat bottom to smash each potato. No need to press hard. They should easily flatten.
- Spray the potatoes with avocado oil.
- Sprinkle the potatoes with garlic powder, paprika, salt and pepper.
- Air fry the potatoes at 400 degrees F for 12-15 minutes, or until crispy.
- Add a sprinkle of freshly chopped parsley.
- I served the smashed potatoes with an optional lemon yogurt dip. To make this dip combine ½ cup 5% plain Greek yogurt, 1 teaspoon extra virgin olive oil, 2 tablespoons cold water, ½ tablespoon fresh lemon zest, ¼ teaspoon garlic powder, ¼ teaspoon salt, ⅛ teaspoon ground black pepper and 1 ½ teaspoon fresh chopped chives.
Recipe pro-tips:
- I recommend preheating your air fryer for even cooking.
- Don't overcrowd your air fryer. Make sure each potato has space to get crispy. No stacking! Making this recipe in batches is necessary if you don't have a large air fryer.
- Use baby potatoes. Red baby potatoes or Yukon Gold baby potatoes work great.
- Don't skip the avocado oil spray or the potatoes can burn rather than get nice and golden.
- Keep the skins on. Fiber + crisp!
Recipe variations:
- Use other spices like chili powder, onion powder, lemon pepper, za'atar or herbes de Provence.
- Use different fresh herbs like dill, rosemary, thyme or chives.
Storage Instructions:
Refrigeration - Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days.
Reheating - Place them into your air fryer at 350 degrees F for about 5 minutes or until warm.
