The photo above features the chicken over rice, but there are a variety of ways to serve it. You can use white rice or brown rice. Alternatively, you can make this meal paleo-friendly and use cauliflower rice or zoodles.
Ingredients in the sauce
Many traditional orange chicken sauce recipes use up to ½ cup of white sugar on top of store-bought sugar-filled orange juice! That's just unnecessary, in my opinion. This recipe uses the juice of fresh oranges and just 1 tablespoon of raw honey. And... it tastes just as delicious!
- fresh orange juice (about 2 oranges)
- raw honey
- apple cider vinegar
- coconut aminos
- ground ginger
- ground turmeric
- dried red chili flakes
- garlic powder
- salt
- ground black pepper
- tapioca flour
- water
Ingredients in the chicken
- ground chicken meat
- sesame oil
- salt
- ground black pepper
- white rice, brown rice, cauliflower rice or zoodles
- sesame seeds and sliced scallion for serving
How to store healthy orange chicken?
Store your Healthy and Easy Orange Ground Chicken in an airtight storage container in the fridge for up to three days. This recipe makes 2 servings, but you can easily double it and use it for meal prep.

Healthy and Easy Orange Ground Chicken
Ingredients
Ingredients in the sauce
- ½ cup fresh orange juice (about 2 oranges)
- 1 tablespoon raw honey
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
- 2 tablespoons coconut aminos
- ¼ teaspoon ground ginger
- ¼ teaspoon ground turmeric
- ¼ teaspoon dried red chili flakes
- ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
- ⅛ teaspoon salt
- ⅛ teaspoon ground black pepper
- ½ tablespoon tapioca flour
- ½ tablespoon water
Ingredients in the chicken
- ½ pound ground chicken meat
- ½ tablespoon sesame oil
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 cup white rice, brown rice, cauliflower rice or zoodles
- sesame seeds and sliced scallion for serving
Instructions
- In a small bowl, make a slurry. This is the mixture that will thicken the sauce. Whisk together ½ tablespoon tapioca flour and ½ tablespoon water. Set this aside.
- Next, in a saucepan on medium heat, add orange juice, honey, vinegar, coconut aminos and spices. Cook for 2-3 minutes.
- Lower the heat, add the slurry mixture and whisk. Whisk until the mixture begins to thicken. Once the mixture is thick, remove from the heat.
- Now, it's time to cook the chicken. In a pan on medium heat, brown the ground chicken in sesame oil. Break up the chicken as it cooks with a wooden spoon. Cook for about 4-5 minutes and then add salt, ground black pepper and the orange sauce to the chicken. Sauté everything together for about 1-2 minutes.
- Serve the chicken over white rice or brown rice. Alternatively, you can make this meal paleo-friendly and use cauliflower rice or zoodles.
- Top with sesame seeds, sliced scallion and enjoy!

Love this recipe Krista! I made this the other day for lunch and it was so easy and delicious, and the sauce was amazing. I served it with brown rice and sautéed veggies and it made for the perfect meal. Will definitely be adding this recipe to my weekly rotation 😊

Love the recipe such awesome flavor! Used ground venison instead, its what we had. The tapioca flower does a great job thickening the sauce to a good consistency.

Awesome! 🙂
