Healthy Cherry Chia Jam is made with just two ingredients and contains no added sugar! It’s great to spread on toast or add to yogurt bowls.

Making your own jam is so much easier than you probably think. No complicated canning process here. All you need is frozen cherries and chia seeds!

No pectin is necessary because the chia seeds naturally make the mixture gelatinous.

In my opinion, the fruit makes this jam sweet enough, but you can add a few teaspoons of pure maple syrup if you would like.

Pro Tip: Spread this lovely jam on Banana Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Bread with some peanut butter for an epic combination!

Why use frozen cherries for this recipe?

There is no need to remove the pits because they are already removed! Imagine having to pit over 2 cups of cherries!? No, thank you. Plus, cherries don't have to be in season to make this recipe. You can enjoy cherry jam all year round.

How do you make cherry jam?

  1. Place frozen cherries into a saucepan.
  2. Cook for 5-7 minutes.
  3. Cover and cook on low for 20 more minutes.
  4. Mash the cherries.
  5. Add chia seeds and combine.
  6. Let the mixture cool before transferring it into an airtight container.
  7. Store in the fridge.

How long does chia seed jam last?

Chia seed jam will last for about a week stored in an airtight container, in the fridge.

Does chia jam freeze well?

Yes, you can freeze the jam for up to 3 months in an airtight container.

Can I use other fruits instead of cherries?

Yes, I have made this recipe with frozen blueberries and frozen strawberries as well.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 ½ cups frozen pitted dark sweet cherries
  • 2 tablespoons chia seeds

Instructions
 

  • Place frozen cherries into a saucepan.
  • Cook for 5-7 minutes on medium heat.
  • Cover and cook on low for 20 more minutes.
  • Remove the lid and mash the cherries with a potato masher. You can mash them to your liking.
  • Add chia seeds in and combine with a spoon. If you like your jam on the sweeter side, add a couple of teaspoons of pure maple syrup.
  • Let the mixture cool before transferring it into an airtight container.
  • Store in the fridge.
