Equipment

  • Air Fryer

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups white whole wheat flour - You will need more when working with the dough. You can substitute whole wheat flour or all purpose flour, but I recommend white whole wheat flour for best results. I haven't tried gluten free flour.
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 ¼ cups plain Greek yogurt - I used 2% fat.
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon oil spray of choice
  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds - You can use other toppings if you'd like.

Instructions

  • First, preheat your air fryer. If your air fryer has a preheating option you can preheat your air fryer. If you don’t have that option, you can run the machine at 350 degrees F for 2-5 minutes. Leave the machine running for about 3 minutes for smaller air fryers. Leave the machine running for about 5 minutes for larger air fryers.
  • In a mixing bowl combine flour, baking powder, salt, Greek yogurt and an egg with a silicone spatula.
  • As the dough begins to form, switch out the spatula for your clean hands.
  • Begin to knead the dough until you have a round ball of dough. If the dough is too sticky, add a sprinkle or two of flour.
  • Divide the dough into six equal parts with a knife.
  • Prepare your working surface. Add a sprinkle of flour to a cutting board. Wet your hands with a little warm water to make it easier to work with the dough. Pick up one of the six sections. Roll the dough into a rope and pinch the ends to form a round circle. Repeat until you have six bagels.
  • Spray each bagel with a little oil spray. Sprinkle and gently press the sesame seeds into the top of each bagel.
  • Spray the air fryer basket with a little oil spray to keep the bagels from sticking. Air fry the bagels at 350 degrees F for 10-15 minutes. Cook them in two separate batches unless you have a very large air fryer.
  • Store the bagels in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days. Freeze for up to 3 months. Reheat them in the air fryer for a few minutes. Or, microwave them for 20-30 seconds, cut in half and toast in the toaster.
