Hey There! Thanks for stopping by. I thought it would be fun to speak to 10 things I do on a daily basis that have helped me live a healthy and happy life. These are small habits that I have implemented over the years which have worked wonders for me. I can probably come up with a list of 100+ tips, but I have narrowed it down because I know you’re busy. I hope that you take away at least one of these tips to positively impact your own life. Are you ready? Let’s do it!
Drink water as soon as you wake up
I fill up my giant water jug each night and leave it on my dresser. When I wake up in the morning, I brush my teeth and drink about 20 ounces of water before I ingest anything. Your body becomes dehydrated through the night and it is crucial to rehydrate and get your digestive system going!
Get greens in at least 2/3 of your meals
In reality, it’s best to have greens in every meal, but that’s not always practical unless you are putting spinach in your oatmeal. I am sorry; I can’t take it that far. Greens such as spinach, kale and arugula are loaded with minerals, vitamins and fiber. Adding a bunch of greens into your meals is also a great way to add volume without many calories at all.
Will this matter in 5 years?
Whenever I find myself stressed about a situation or if something is weighing heavy on my mind, I stop and think, will this matter in 5 years from now? It sounds corny but it really works. You come to the realization that what you think is such a big deal, is not that complicated.
Go to bed before midnight
I know this depends on your work schedule and what time you need to be awake. When I worked full-time, in New York City, I was awake before 5 AM to workout. My bedtime was around 9 PM. As a rule of thumb, I say before midnight. When I go to sleep after midnight, I feel exhausted and less productive the next day no matter how late I sleep. Get your zzz’s.
Workout in the morning
I find working out in the morning is best. I feel accomplished and ready to conquer my day after I have moved my body. I feel much less motivated by the end of the day. Also, I find myself thinking about when and how I will workout all day if I save it until the evening. I rather just have it done and dusted as soon as my day begins.
When I am working on projects, I have a lot on my plate and I am on the verge of burnout, I step away. I do something that has nothing to do with work. Some things I personally like to do are go for a walk, watch a mindless television show or cook some healthy cookies. This allows my mind to clear and go back to whatever I was doing feeling fresh and more confident.
Stick to short ingredient lists
When I am at the grocery store and find a new tempting product, I always turn to the back to check what is inside the packaging. The shorter the list, the better. The ingredients are listed from most abundant to least. Example: If sugar is the second ingredient, this means the second most abundant ingredient in the food item is sugar. No bueno. It’s all about balance. At times, I eat things with a lot of ingredients, but most of the time, I like to stick to this rule.
Prep it Out
If you do not work from home and live alone, you probably can benefit from prepping your meals ahead of time. When I worked full-time in the corporate world and my commute was 2 hours long, I would prep my breakfast, lunch and snacks on Sunday. It helped me stay on track and save money! Another great hack is to make an additional serving of whatever you are making for dinner. This is an easy way to have lunch for the next day!
Do a workout that you enjoy
If you do not enjoy the exercise you are doing, your workout regime will not be sustainable. For example, if you despise running, do not force yourself to run 5 days a week. You will burnout and become unhappy. It’s one thing to challenge yourself. I don’t enjoy burpees, but my workout is not 100 burpees a day 6 days a week. You should feel amazing and empowered after you complete your workout. Those happy endorphins should be flowing. Move your body in ways which you enjoy. This could be walking, jogging, HIIT circuits, weight lifting or swimming. Do what works for you!
Drink tea at night
This is something that is difficult for me at times because I love an almond cappuccino after dinner. I’ve noticed a massive difference in my quality of sleep when I have tea before bed rather than coffee. I feel much more relaxed and it puts me in a calming state of mind. Being a full-time influencer and blogger, my mind is constantly turning and thinking of new ideas. Once I have my cup of tea, it tells my body to wind down and get ready for bed. I don’t like to have the same tea every single night because I will get bored. Tipson Tea has helped me spice things up a bit. My favorite line of tea that I enjoy having at night is The Organic Turmeric Collection. The Organic Moringa Collection and Organic Matcha Collection are great too but are not caffeine-free. I recommend having those during the daytime. They have a variety of teas to choose from in each of the collections incorporating flavors such as ginger, peach, lemon and chamomile. I love a nice peach tea during the summer with a piece of dark chocolate covered in peanut butter. There’s no better way to end your day.
